Stress-strain plot (within the elstic limit)
Questions:
- Does the load-displacement curve change if cross sectional shape changes while keeping the area same?
- Does the stress change if cross sectional shape changes while keeping the area same?
- What happens to the stress if the material changes keeping all other properties the same?
- Does the strain change if the length of the specimen changes (keeping all other properties remain same)?
- State the reason for unchanged slope in the stress-strain curve but varying slope in the load-displacement curve when area changes.
- Note the load-displacement curve for the conditions: a) \(l=500\,\text{mm},\,A=50\,\text{mm}^2\), b) \(l=500\,\text{mm},\,A=50\,\text{mm}^2\).
Does the curves remain same? If so, why?
